Zamfara’s Commissioner of Education, Mallam Wadatau Madawaki, has raised concerns about the existence of more than 300 unlicensed private schools in the state.
Madawaki also revealed that the state government has suspended the operational licenses of all private schools in the state to realign them with the objectives of the state government’s rescue mission.
Speaking to the press in Gusau today, the commissioner outlined the state government’s plan to regulate the activities of private schools in order to enhance the quality of education in the state.
He pointed out that the decision to suspend these licenses became necessary because out of the 761 private schools identified in the state, only 450 had valid licenses, while the rest either had expired licenses or were operating beyond their license’s capacity.
“Over 300 schools are currently operating without licenses, which is detrimental to the learning environment. The state government has devised a strategy to regulate the activities of private schools,” he stated.
Madawaki further revealed that the state government has taken steps to revitalize the education sector and improve the entire system’s effectiveness through various interventions.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing teachers in the state with adequate training and retraining, along with timely promotions and payments of all allowances and salaries, to further motivate and support them.
