Breaking: Chief of Staff Abducted by Gunmen, N20 Million Ransom Demand

In a troubling incident, Usman Sahabi, the Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the Adamawa House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, has been abducted by unidentified gunmen. The alarming event occurred around 1 a.m. on a Thursday, when the assailants invaded Sahabi’s residence in Wurro-Chekke, a community located in the Yola South local government area of Adamawa State.

Five armed individuals forcibly entered his home at 1:00 am and proceeded to abduct him at gunpoint, as confirmed by one of the sources familiar with the situation.

Usman Sahabi, prior to his role as Chief of Staff to the House of Assembly Speaker, served as a staff member at the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). He transitioned to his current position after a career at the Assembly.

In a distressing development, the abductors have already contacted Sahabi’s family and have made a harrowing ransom demand of N20 million for his release. This demand has further heightened the urgency and gravity of the situation.

The Adamawa State Police Command has officially confirmed the abduction and has committed to a swift and determined rescue operation. SP Sulaiman Nguroje, the spokesperson for the command, has asserted their commitment to ensuring the safe return of the kidnapped individual to his family. He stated, “We deployed our operational manpower and we are working round the clock to ensure that the abducted journalist is rescued alive.” Nguroje emphasized that they are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of the kidnappers, with the goal of not only rescuing Usman Sahabi but also apprehending those responsible.

The Deputy Commissioner of Operations (DC) has taken charge of coordinating the comprehensive rescue efforts, ensuring a relentless pursuit of the journalist’s freedom and the apprehension of the culprits. Adamawa State authorities are dedicated to bringing an end to this distressing ordeal and securing Sahabi’s safe return.
