“If I Demand ₦20bn Every Month, it’s Politics,” Wike Justifies His Dispute With Fubara

Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Federal Capital Territory Minister, recently defended his ongoing conflict with Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State, attributing it to political differences.

Wike asserted that when he requests ₦20 billion on a monthly basis and grants himself all the contracts, it’s simply a political maneuver. He expressed his bewilderment at Fubara’s absence during his past political battles.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja, Wike emphasized his commitment to maintaining political relevance and safeguarding his political infrastructure, asserting, “I can’t allow anyone to sideline me abruptly, regardless of the accusations leveled against me. I won’t lose sleep over doing what’s right.”

The confrontation between Wike and Fubara escalated to the point where some members of the state assembly sought to impeach the governor, but he successfully thwarted these efforts.
