Zamfara Governor Pays Solidarity Visit To NYSC Headquarters Abuja

Dr. Dauda Lawal, the Governor of Zamfara State, conveyed his condolences to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in light of the abduction of prospective corps members within his state several months ago. His sentiments were expressed during a solidarity visit to the NYSC Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, where he met with Brig Gen YD Ahmed, the Director General of NYSC. This information was shared in a statement by Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations, on Thursday.

Governor Lawal, deeply moved by the unfortunate abduction of these young graduates, assured his host that his office is actively collaborating with security agencies to secure their safe release. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to closely cooperating with all security entities to establish a secure environment for the continuous deployment of corps members within the state.

In response, the Director General of NYSC expressed his gratitude to the governor for standing in solidarity with the organization during this challenging period. He also took the opportunity to extend his appreciation to the government and the people of Zamfara State for their unwavering support of NYSC. The exceptional hospitality of the Emir of Tsafe, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammadu Bawa, was particularly commended each time NYSC’s team visited his domain concerning the abductees.

Furthermore, the NYSC Director General assured his visitor of the organization’s readiness to resume deploying corps members to the state once the security situation improves.

It’s worth noting that eight prospective corps members from Akwa-Ibom State were kidnapped in Zamfara State while en route to their orientation camp in Sokoto State. Meanwhile, through the collaborative efforts of the NYSC and security agencies, two of the kidnapped prospective corps members have been successfully released.
