Fed Govt Allocates ₦610 Billion For Workers Wage Awards, CCT

The Federal Government of Nigeria has allocated a substantial budget of ₦610 billion for several key initiatives. The majority of this budget, approximately ₦400 billion, is earmarked for a conditional cash transfer (CCT) program aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals and households.

In addition to this, the government has set aside ₦210 billion to cover a temporary wage award for federal civil servants. This wage award was initially announced by President Tinubu during his Independence Day address, with an initial amount of ₦25,000 designated for “low-grade workers” in the federal civil service. This announcement was made in an effort to prevent an impending nationwide protest organized by labor unions across the country.

Following subsequent negotiations with these labor unions, the wage award was increased to ₦35,000, and its scope expanded to include all cadres of workers within the federal civil service.

This budget allocation reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of both civil servants and vulnerable individuals and households in the country. It underscores the importance of providing financial support to those in need and ensuring fair compensation for federal civil servants who play a vital role in government operations.
