Northern Group Threatens To Halt Food Supply To Southern Nigeria

A group known as the Northern Consensus Movement of Nigeria has declared its intention to halt the supply of food from the North to the southern part of the country.

This move comes in response to a recent ultimatum issued by Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba nation agitator, demanding that the Fulani community leave Yorubaland within ten days.

The Northern Consensus Movement of Nigeria has vowed to take all necessary actions to prevent this, including urging Yoruba residents in the northern region to relocate if the threat persists.

During a press conference, the group’s President, Awwal Aliyu, stated, “Just recently, Sunday Igboho was released from prison but he issued a fresh ultimatum for the Fulani community living in Yorubaland to depart the region within seven days. This time, we, the Northern Consensus Movement of Nigeria, will do everything possible to prevent this, and if he continues to resist, we may have no choice but to request Yorubas living in the northern part of the country to return to their region.”

Additionally, the group has demanded compensation for victims of the ENDSARs, Shasha-Akinyele market, and IPOB/ESN-related incidents. They have given a four-week ultimatum for their demands to be met and have threatened to embark on a nationwide protest and stop food supplies to the southern region if their demands are not addressed.

The Northern Consensus Movement of Nigeria has called on President Bola Tinubu and various authorities, including security agencies, governors, former leaders, and northern state assemblies, to address their longstanding requests.

Furthermore, they have urged the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, to intervene and call Sunday Igboho to order. In October, Igboho had issued a seven-day ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen in the South-West, asking them to leave the region to prevent vigilante actions due to farmer killings in Oyo and Ogun states.
