In a recent emergency advisory dated November 3, the United States has issued a stern warning to its citizens in Nigeria, alerting them to “elevated threats” directed at major hotels in the country’s “larger cities.”

The advisory underscores that Nigerian security agencies are proactively addressing these threats, yet it underscores the critical need for vigilance among U.S. citizens who are residing in or visiting major hotels. The advisory recommends that Americans remain aware of their surroundings, adopt a low profile, and consult Nigeria’s travel advisory before checking into any hotel.

The advisory further emphasizes, “The U.S. Government has credible information indicating an increased threat to major hotels in Nigeria’s larger cities. Nigerian security services are working diligently to mitigate this threat. The U.S. Department of State advises U.S. citizens to take this information into consideration when booking accommodations or visiting major hotels in Nigeria.”
