Situated 100 kilometers south of Gusau, the capital of Zamfara state, Dansadau is a town with historical significance often overshadowed by its political and economic potential. Bordered by Kebbi, Kaduna, and Katsina states, Dansadau emirate comprises five districts: Dansadau, Dangulbi, Dankurmi, Bindin, and Kuyambana.
Primarily populated by farmers and businessmen, Dansadau benefits from fertile land suitable for year-round crop cultivation and rich mineral resources, including gold, iron, tantalite, and copper. Despite this wealth, the emirate faces challenges that have hindered its development, such as dilapidated infrastructure, inadequate healthcare and education facilities, poor water supply, and a lack of electricity.
Politically, Dansadau holds a pivotal role in Zamfara state elections, with results from this emirate often determining the overall outcome. Notably, Senator Sa’idu Muhammad Dansadau has emerged as an influential figure, contributing significantly to the state’s and Nigeria’s political landscape.
Post-2011 elections, Dansadau residents anticipated government intervention for developmental projects. However, these hopes were dashed, leading to the neglect of critical issues. Despite its substantial contribution to the state’s economy, Dansadau remains overlooked by leaders, exacerbating its unique challenges.
The neglect takes a toll on security, as Dansadau grapples with escalating violence. Armed bandits and cattle rustlers terrorize the populace, leading to loss of life, property, and disruptions in farming activities. The state of insecurity has made the journey from the capital to Dansadau perilous.
The pressing question arises: why does Dansadau continue to be sidelined by authorities? While other regions receive attention, Dansadau’s struggles persist unnoticed. It is imperative for the government to address the security crisis and implement lasting solutions to alleviate the hardships faced by the emirate.
Dansadau holds the highest economic contribution among the 14 local governments in the state, particularly in agriculture. Despite this, its significance has been overlooked by leaders, becoming a pressing issue.
The perplexing aspect is the apparent lack of concern from state authorities about the challenges faced by Dansadau. While other areas like Anka, Zurmi, and Shinkafi are frequently discussed, Dansadau’s issues seem neglected. If the emirate isn’t recognized for its economic and political contributions, it should not be abandoned when facing calamities.
Despite neglect, the security situation worsens in Dansadau. Armed bandits and cattle rustlers attack villages, resulting in casualties, property theft, kidnappings, and farm destruction. Unfortunately, the government takes no decisive action.
Presently, farmers struggle to access their fields due to deteriorating security. The road from the state capital to the town is perilous, taking four to seven days for a 100-kilometer journey due to insecurity. Commuters have been unable to travel without a security escort armed with heavy weapons for over three years.
As we call on the relevant authorities to intervene, we also appeal to the current administration of Governor Dauda Lawal to prioritize Dansadau’s issues. Although complete solutions may take time, immediate actions are crucial to mitigate the suffering of the emirate’s residents and revive its potential for growth and prosperity.
