Crucial Decision: NLC-TUC, NSA Meeting Concludes – The Outcome!

In the aftermath of a crucial meeting with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are set to convene a joint extraordinary National Executive Council (NEC) meeting today at 7 pm.

Tommy Etim, the National Vice President of TUC, revealed the forthcoming meeting, expressing appreciation for the steps taken by the NSA. Etim highlighted that Ribadu conveyed a non-partisan stance, viewing the issue as not a political battle. The NSA confirmed the arrest of two individuals implicated in the brutalization of NLC President Joe Ajaero. Etim emphasized the surprise of the government at the unions proceeding with the strike, stating, “Initially, the government felt the strike would not hold. They were shocked to see that we went ahead with our threats.”

Etim announced the extraordinary joint NEC meeting scheduled for 7 pm, instilling a sense of hope in the ongoing dialogue. Earlier in the day, Ribadu engaged with the organized labor leadership in Abuja, where he assured them of the arrest of those responsible for Ajaero’s brutalization.

The organized labor’s protest stems from the alleged mistreatment of NLC National President Joe Ajaero, and developments from the meeting and subsequent announcements indicate a pivotal turning point in the ongoing labor dispute. Stay tuned for further updates as the unions navigate these critical discussions.
