On Friday morning, the Kano State Government facilitated the departure of 150 first-class graduates to pursue their Master’s Degree programs in various disciplines in India.
The beneficiaries boarded a flight from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport at approximately 7:30 am, with the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofarmata, and other government officials present.
The flight to India, via Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, included a brief stopover in Lagos before the final leg of the journey.
Dr. Kofarmata, speaking after the takeoff, highlighted that this marks the fourth batch leaving as part of the government’s commitment to implementing the 1,001 postgraduate scholarship program for 2023/2024.
Upon arrival in India, the beneficiaries will be directed to various universities to commence their Master’s Degree programs.
Dr. Kofarmata emphasized that these students, selected based on their meritorious performance as first-class graduates, will study in internationally competitive fields to address the manpower gap in the state and the nation.
“A total of 550 students in the first batch will attend eight reputable universities, focusing on internationally competitive areas to bridge the manpower gap in the state and the nation. They are expected to gain experience, skills, and knowledge to revamp the state’s commercial status and explore other potential for socio-economic development,” he explained.
He recalled that the first batch of 140 students departed for India immediately after the flagoff ceremony on October 20. The second batch of 33 graduates was airlifted to study at the Islamic University in Uganda on the same day.
The airlift of graduates to pursue Master’s Degree programs abroad aligns with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s campaign promises, continuing the policy introduced by former Governor Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Governor Yusuf for fulfilling his promises and reviving this initiative. The Commissioner highlighted the widespread celebration and support for the government’s efforts in fulfilling its duties to the state.
