Kwankwaso Advises Kano Governor: No Hope at Supreme Court, Step Aside

Alhaji (Dr) Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso, a notable member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, has called upon the incumbent Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to graciously accept the outcome of the Appeal Court’s ruling in Abuja without pursuing the case further in the Supreme Court.

Kwankwaso emphasized the futility of seeking recourse at the Supreme Court, highlighting the compelling evidence that led to Yusuf’s dismissal at both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court. He advised the governor to take a step back and await further political opportunities until 2027.

While lauding the triumph of Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the APC’s governorship candidate, Kwankwaso described Gawuna’s confirmation as governor-elect as a victory for democracy and the rule of law. He expressed disappointment that Governor Yusuf chose to expend state resources pursuing the case at the Appeal Court after the tribunal’s initial ruling against him.

Kwankwaso pointed out that the Appeal Court, similar to the tribunal, nullified Yusuf’s election, suggesting that it would be wiser for him to prepare for a potential re-election bid in 2023 under a different political party.

Addressing Yusuf as a brother, Kwankwaso urged him to refrain from escalating the matter to the Supreme Court, noting that the present moment was not conducive for him to continue governing the state. He extended an invitation for Yusuf to join the APC, offering an opportunity for learning and potential future political roles within the party.

Additionally, Kwankwaso congratulated Dr. Gawuna and the deputy governor-elect, Alhaji Sule Garo, urging them to prepare to lead the state. He expressed confidence in their abilities to rectify the shortcomings left by the ousted governor and praised the unwavering support of APC members, especially the party’s national chairman, throughout this challenging period.
