Bayelsa Police Unveil Suspect Behind Shocking Murder of Rivers DPO

The Bayelsa Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the murder case of former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bako Angbashim, as they successfully apprehended a key suspect associated with the crime. Identified as Onyekachi Ikowa, a 43-year-old individual believed to hold the position of second in command within the notorious Icelanders cult, Ikowa was captured on Saturday, November 18th, 2023, at his concealment in Yenagoa.

According to Bayelsa State Police spokesman Butswat Asinim, Ikowa, who had initially fled to Sagamu in Ogun state, returned to Yenagoa, where he was hiding out. Upon receiving reliable intelligence suggesting his presence in the state, Bayelsa’s Commissioner of Police, Francis Iduh, ordered a thorough search leading to Ikowa’s arrest.

The arrest marked a crucial milestone in the investigation into the brutal killing of the late SP Bako Angbashim, who served as the Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Division in Rivers State. Ikowa, identified as the second in command to the feared cult leader TuBaba of the Icelander group, was believed to have played a role in the heartless murder of the late SP Angbashim in September 2023.

In response to the apprehension, Commissioner Iduh emphasized the imperative to track down any additional accomplices who might be seeking refuge in Bayelsa. He asserted the commitment of the Bayelsa Command to eliminate any safe havens for criminals, affirming a staunch stance against such activities within the state.
