The Police Service Commission has rejected a total of 84,606 applications in the ongoing recruitment exercise for the Constable Cadre of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission’s spokesperson, a total of 547,774 applications have been received on the Police Recruitment portal, which closes on November 26, 2023, after opening on October 15, 2023.
Kaduna State maintained its lead with the highest number of applicants at 40,272, while Anambra had the lowest with 1,664.
Out of the 547,774 applicants, 358,900 were successful and qualified for the next round, including physical assessments, credential verification, medical evaluations, and rigorous background checks.
A significant portion of the rejections, 84,606, resulted from overage, as applicants are expected to be between 18 and 25 years old.
The top states in terms of applications are Kaduna (40,272), Adamawa (36,398), Borno (32,048), Benue (31,122), Katsina (30,202), Bauchi (30,604), and Kano (30,004).
Conversely, Anambra remains in the last position with 1,664 applicants, followed by Ebonyi, Lagos, Bayelsa, and Abia.
Dr. Solomon Arase, Chairman of the Police Service Commission, expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming interest shown by Nigerian youths in pursuing a career in the police force. He urged South-East youths to reconsider their indifference to police work, emphasizing that embracing anti-government criminal activities would not lead to positive outcomes for their region.
Arase reiterated the Commission’s commitment to conducting recruitment based on defined criteria, ensuring merit and justice throughout the entire process.
