“We currently Do Not Have Jobs For University Graduates,” – VP Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered a compelling message to University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) graduates during the 24th combined convocation ceremony, where he was honored with a doctorate degree. Shettima urged the graduates to shift from traditional job-seeking approaches, emphasizing the need for entrepreneurship and self-employment.

Gone are the days when graduates relied solely on government jobs, Shettima stated. He emphasized the importance of utilizing the skills acquired during their education to positively impact society. “Start an enterprise, no matter how small your capital or idea is,” Shettima advised, stressing the graduates’ role in contributing solutions to the nation’s challenges.

Expressing gratitude for his own educational journey at UNIMAID, Shettima credited the institution for shaping his formative years as a student. He acknowledged the impact of his lecturers and mentors, describing the university as instrumental in preparing him for leadership and service.

During the convocation, Shettima received an honorary doctorate, which he attributed to the equalizing power of education fostered at UNIMAID. He highlighted that education is not just about passing examinations but about applying what one learns. “Intellectual curiosity is the preservative of every enduring civilization,” he remarked.

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, commended UNIMAID for equipping students to contribute to national development. He assured the university’s management of continued support from the state government.

The convocation ceremony drew notable dignitaries, including state governors, federal lawmakers, and the Shehu of Borno.
