BREAKING: Abuja Court Grants Godwin Emefiele ₦300 million Bail

On Wednesday, a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja granted bail to former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele. The bail sum is ₦300m, with two sureties required to provide similar amounts.

Justice Hamza Muazu, presiding over the case, specified that the sureties must possess Certificates of Occupancy and property titles within the Maitama District. Emefiele is also instructed to submit all his travel documents to the court registrar and remain within the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

Pending the fulfillment of bail conditions, Muazu ordered Emefiele’s temporary confinement in the Kuje Correctional Centre. The charges against Emefiele involve alleged procurement fraud, initially totaling N6.5 billion but later reduced to six charges amounting to N1.2bn by the Federal Government.

The trial is scheduled to commence on November 28, following the bail ruling.
