Kano’s Judicial Drama: Typo Error in Court Ruling Draws Supreme Court’s Attention!

The Kano State Government vehemently contests the Court of Appeal’s explanation regarding a typographical error in the Certified True Copy (CTC) of its ruling on the state’s gubernatorial election, deeming it “unacceptable and scandalous.”

This controversy stems from the court’s initial decision to remove Governor Abba Yusuf from office, proclaiming the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Nasiru Gawuna as the winner of the March poll. However, a subsequent emergence of a CTC on Wednesday seemingly reaffirmed Yusuf’s victory, prompting widespread consternation.

Kano State’s Justice Commissioner, Haruna Dederi, vehemently opposed the court’s attribution of the discrepancy to a typo error. In an appearance on Channels Television, Dederi raised significant doubts, questioning how a typographical error could possibly influence entire paragraphs within the document. He labeled such an explanation as “outrageously scandalous and unacceptable.”

Expressing dissatisfaction, the Commissioner emphasized that the dispute over the judgment’s authenticity has now escalated to the Supreme Court for resolution.

Despite the Court of Appeal’s attempt to clarify the situation, Dederi firmly maintained that the trending CTC remains the only version acknowledged as the Court of Appeal’s judgment, denying the existence of any corrected version.

This newer version dictates a payment of N1 million by the Governor to the APC as costs.
