In a heightened atmosphere of tension, Kano finds itself at the cusp of potential turmoil as stakeholders representing the APC and NNPP have set the stage for street demonstrations scheduled for this Saturday.
Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, the Director-General of the Gawuna/Garo Campaign Organisation, convened a press conference at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja. He led a consortium of influential figures, including members of the Kano State House of Assembly, former commissioners, ex-special advisers, and other stalwarts of the APC in the state. Bichi disclosed that while the NNPP plans a mass protest in Kano on Saturday following discussions with their leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the APC is concurrently arranging a mass rally in support of their party’s candidate.
In response to inquiries about the rationale behind the APC’s concurrent rally with the NNPP’s planned protest, Bichi stressed, “We are also going for a mass rally on Saturday as part of democracy.”
Addressing concerns about potential violence, Bichi emphasized their commitment to upholding the law and ensuring peace while asserting their readiness to safeguard lives and property.
The return of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to Kano on Sunday, culminating in a gathering of NNPP stakeholders, has exacerbated the already tense situation. Residents of Kano have endured a constant sense of fear due to alleged intimidation and threats to life and property, starting with previous episodes of violence by elements associated with the NNPP, targeted at the APC.
Expressing apprehension over the anticipated mass protest, Bichi urged the Kano State police command and other security agencies to remain vigilant and take proactive measures to prevent any potential loss of life or property.
