In an earnest response to mitigate the impact of the government’s decision to remove fuel subsidies on May 29, 2023, following President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration, Hon. (Dr) Aliyu Adamu PhD, the sole administrator of Tsafe local government, took a proactive step. He invested in buses to enhance and streamline community transportation between Tsafe and Gusau.
Notably, the fare for these buses is not officially announced, but the source confirmed to The Spectacles that the fare is set not to exceed ₦300, a substantial reduction from the previous ₦700. This initiative brings tangible relief to the residents, lessening the burden imposed by the policy changes.
This development marks a significant source of pride for the people of Zamfara state. Governor Dauda Lawal’s decision to empower the sole administrators of the 14 local governments, a role dormant since Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi’s administration in 2011, is a noteworthy stride toward democratic participation.
For the first time in years, local government administrators have the opportunity to actively contribute to their communities, aligning with the principles of democracy. This move is not only commendable but also sets a precedent for similar initiatives across the nation.
Anticipating a domino effect, it is hoped that administrators of other local governments will be inspired to follow suit, ensuring that more communities become beneficiaries of this democratic dividend.
