In an exclusive revelation, it has come to light that Zamfara State Governor, Lawal, has spent a staggering amount in just three months.from the state’s budget performance report indicates Governor Lawal spent over N400 million on local and international trips, alongside a hefty N150 million on foodstuffs, catering materials, and welfare.
Pages 30 to 33 of the state’s budget performance report detail the governor’s excessive spending. Besides the aforementioned expenses, the Lawal-led government disbursed N67.1 million on categorized “traditional gifts” and a substantial N154.6 million on donations. Notably, an extensive N170.2 million went towards international travel and transport, with N221.6 million allocated for local travel. Surprisingly, a mere N6.9 million was directed to private security during this period.
Records indicate a significant N57 million was allocated for electricity charges over the same three-month period. Alarmingly, the report unveiled “zero allocations” to more than 15 state general hospitals, raising concerns about resource distribution within the state.
The report delves into the state government’s revenue sources, including Statutory Allocation, Value Added Tax, Capital Receipts, and Internally Generated Revenue. It highlights the severe impact of insecurity on internally generated revenue over the past eight years.
While Zamfara State possesses immense potential in food crops, minerals, and industrial goods, this report underscores the need for effective harnessing of these resources. Proper utilization could not only boost internal revenue but also foster employment opportunities, thereby bolstering the state’s GDP.
