NJC Investigates Kano Election Appeal: Judicial Officers Face Disciplinary Action

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has announced its intent to launch a thorough investigation into the controversy surrounding the certified true copy (CTC) of the Kano State governorship election appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja. This decision emerged during discussions held by NJC officials at the Media Trust Ltd headquarters in Abuja.

The CTC of the November 17 judgment, which nullified Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf’s position in favor of Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC), sparked confusion and widespread criticism. Chief Registrar Umar Mohammed Bangari acknowledged clerical errors in the document but maintained the validity of the court’s ruling.

Speaking to Daily Trust, the NJC delegation leader confirmed the reception of petitions, assuring compliance with stipulated procedures for assessment. The process involves a preliminary complaint evaluation, subsequent plenary review, and the establishment of a committee to investigate. Furthermore, the NJC’s inquiry remains unaffected by Governor Yusuf’s decision to incorporate the CTC in the Supreme Court appeal.

This move highlights the NJC’s commitment to upholding integrity within the judiciary and addressing concerns regarding the Kano governorship verdict.
