Commissioner Olatunji Disu of the Rivers State Police Command announced the apprehension of 13 officers for breaching dress code regulations during city patrols conducted by the Monitoring unit. This action is part of an ongoing initiative aimed at eradicating indecent dressing within the command. Additionally, Disu highlighted that not only the arrested officers but also the heads of the respective Units or Divisions they serve in would be held vicariously liable for their subordinates’ actions. The detained officers are currently in custody pending further action.
In a separate context, Commissioner Disu addressed the tragic killing of SP Bako Angbashim, the late Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Ahoada Police Division, emphasizing that this matter would not be overlooked. Angbashim fell victim to suspected Iceland cult members led by Gift David Okpara, alias 2Baba. Disu provided this assurance during a radio program organized by the Force Public Relations department in Abuja, monitored in Port Harcourt on December 2, 2023, expressing gratitude for the public’s concern and engaging with stakeholders in Ahoada for guidance and counsel.
Expressing his vision for the command, Commissioner Disu highlighted the need for effective and amiable police officers, stressing the essential role of cooperation and partnership with the public. He underlined efforts to foster this partnership through civil interactions, especially within the traffic section, promoting mutual trust and information sharing between law enforcement and the community.
Concerning looming security threats associated with the year-end period, Commissioner Disu acknowledged the potential rise in crime rates among individuals seeking to make quick profits. He assured the public of comprehensive security measures in place to counter any emerging security challenges during this period, underscoring the command’s readiness to safeguard the community.
