Progress Made in Rescuing Abducted Corps Members in Zamfara; Efforts Continue

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has successfully secured the release of two additional female prospective corps members who were abducted in Zamfara State while en route to the orientation camp in Sokoto. With this development, the total number of rescued victims has reached four, while four individuals remain in captivity.

Initially, on August 17, eight Corps Members were abducted in Zamfara while traveling from Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto. The Nigerian Army has recently facilitated the release of one male and one female abductee.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, signed by Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations, NYSC highlighted the ongoing efforts to secure the safe release of the remaining four Prospective Corps Members.

Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the NYSC Director General, reassured the public, particularly the parents of the remaining abductees, that the Scheme, in collaboration with security agencies, is diligently exploring all available strategies to ensure their safe release and reunion with their families.

The statement expressed gratitude for the substantial support received from the Nigerian Army, acknowledging their concerted efforts to secure the release of the abducted Prospective Corps Members.

“The Scheme remains steadfast in its statutory responsibility of fostering national unity and integration,” the statement concluded.
