President Tinubu Drops Bombshell: Nigeria’s Battle Against Corruption Heats Up

The revelation emerged during a seminar observing the United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day 2023 in Abuja on Friday, declared by Mr. Lateef Olasukanmi Fagbemi, SAN, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

Fagbemi highlighted the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) unwavering commitment to combating corruption, underscoring their previous endorsement of the NACS 2017-2021 back in 2017. Post the expiration of the prior strategy, the FEC extended its approval for an additional four years in November 2022.

Outlined with a focus on five pillars, the National Anti-Corruption Strategy acts as a driving force in both public and private sectors, emphasizing Prevention of Corruption, Public Engagement, Campaign for Ethical Re-orientation, Enforcement and Sanction, and Recovery and Management of Proceeds of Crime.

Highlighting the significance of the upcoming event, Fagbemi stressed, “The inauguration of the IMC and the launch of the NACS 2022-2026 are pivotal activities anticipated to occur in the first quarter of 2024.”

He elaborated on the composition of the NACS-IMC, comprising various high-ranking officials across ministries and committees. Reflecting on the accomplishments achieved in the NACS (2017-2021) implementation phase, Fagbemi noted milestones such as establishing a Secretariat, developing essential implementation tools, conducting workshops, and monitoring and evaluating the strategy’s progress across government bodies.
