In response to the recent upheaval in Niger, the summit vehemently condemned the military takeover, demanding the immediate release of President Mohammed Bazoum and the restoration of constitutional order. A committee of heads of state was established to engage the junta, devising a concise transition roadmap and monitoring strategies. Moreover, leaders committed to gradually easing sanctions based on demonstrated progress.
Applauding the peaceful elections in Nigeria, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, the summit highlighted Nigeria’s resolved electoral dispute and the ongoing dialogue between Sierra Leone’s opposition and government. There was a reiterated emphasis on upholding constitutional norms and respecting the rule of law across all member states.
