Lawmakers’ Shocking Response: N350m Aid for Bomb-Hit Kaduna

The Northern caucus in the House of Representatives has made a significant pledge of N350 million to support the Federal Government in reconstructing Tudun Biri, a Kaduna State community that was mistakenly bombed by the Nigerian Army last week.

The intended bomb strike, aimed at dislodging bandits from Tudun Biri in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, tragically struck the wrong target, causing the loss of an estimated 120 innocent lives and leaving numerous others injured.

Expressing their solidarity, the Northern House caucus, under the leadership of Alhassan Doguwa, announced plans to visit the area and extend their condolences to affected families and survivors. In a personal statement from the Kano lawmaker, the group condemned the tragic incident and affirmed their commitment to aiding the government in restoring normalcy to the area.

This support includes various developmental projects such as healthcare facilities, classrooms, water boreholes, and a community town hall valued at N350 million to assist the Federal Government in rebuilding the community. Additionally, the caucus pledged a cash donation of N45 million from the Speaker and the Northern regional caucus of the Federal House of Representatives.

While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies in combating insurgency and criminal activities, the lawmakers lamented the ongoing violent campaigns by bandits and criminal elements across the country.

In light of these recurrent tragedies, the caucus has decided to visit and sympathize with the government and leaders of Tudun Biri on Monday, November 11, 2023, to gather firsthand information to prevent future occurrences.

They appreciated the prompt response of the Tinubu-led Federal Government in aiding victims and vowed to ensure appropriate compensation for victims and the affected community. The caucus aims to facilitate the legal framework for compensation and ensure the families of the deceased are adequately covered.

Lastly, the caucus urged the affected community and leaders to remain calm and law-abiding while expressing gratitude to the Government and Governor of Kaduna State for maintaining law and order in the state.
