Breaking: NLC Fires Back Against World Bank’s Fuel Price Hike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strongly opposes the World Bank’s suggestion to raise petrol prices to N750 per litre. Benson Upah, NLC’s Head of Information, warned that such a hike could cause chaos and urged the government to reject the proposal. He emphasized the potential turmoil from the current rates, which hover between N620 and N650 per litre.

Upah criticized the World Bank’s approach, accusing it of neglecting the global south’s interests. He highlighted the adverse impact of existing petrol prices and cautioned against raising them further. Upah pointed out the disparity in minimum wages between Nigeria and the United States, urging the government to combat corruption in the petroleum sector and reduce governance expenses.
