Ekiti State Approves ₦352.3 Million Car, Housing Loans For Civil Servants

On Monday, the Head of Service of Ekiti State, Sunday Komolafe, announced that the state government has disbursed ₦352.3 million in car and housing loans to civil servants and teachers in 2023. Komolafe revealed that a total of 3,021 civil servants and teachers were beneficiaries of these loans. Additionally, the state government appointed 3,199 individuals across various categories in schools and MDAs to address the issue of inadequate manpower.

Addressing the media during a press conference in Ado Ekiti as part of the 2023 Civil Service Week activities, Komolafe commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration for its unwavering commitment to the welfare of civil servants. He emphasized the crucial role of the civil service in interpreting and executing government policies, underscoring its significance in measuring the success of any government.

“The civil service plays a pivotal role in the interpretation and execution of government policies. That is why it is generally believed that the success or otherwise of any government is measured by the quality of the civil service. I, therefore, enjoin all civil servants to be more committed to their responsibilities for the actualization of the shared prosperity agenda of the present administration in the state,” said the Head of Service.

Komolafe further praised Governor Oyebanji for strategically strengthening the civil service through transparent and merit-based competitive appointments, including 15 new permanent secretaries, a statistician-general, a secretary of the Audit Service Commission, and an auditor-general of the Local Government.

He highlighted the administration’s commitment to modernizing the civil service by leveraging ICT, emphasizing the ongoing digitalization of government processes to enhance probity and efficient service delivery.

Breaking down the allocation of car and housing loans, Komolafe provided the following details: 420 civil servants received car loans totaling ₦130.7 million, 1,634 civil servants enjoyed housing loans totaling ₦221.335 million, 337 teachers benefited from car loans totaling ₦140,000, and 630 teachers received housing loans totaling ₦117,000.

In addition to these initiatives, Komolafe mentioned the recapitalization of the Local Government Loans Board for the benefit of local government workers in the state.
