In a significant development, the Nigerian Senate has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police, mandating the appearance of Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), before the Senate Committee on Finance. As reported by Channels TV, Magaji, previously flagged by the committee during the MTEF/FP defense, has evaded three consecutive summons.
Senator Sani Musa, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, expressed discontent with Magaji’s repeated failure to heed the Senate’s call, deeming it disrespectful. During the budget defense session, invoking section 89, sub-section 2, Senator Musa directed the Registrar-General’s presence due to identified discrepancies in the Corporate Affairs Commission’s revenue generation and expenditure.
Senator Musa emphasized, “You have your bookkeepers; you have your records, and we asked you to go and tidy up and report back, but you never did.” In response to this defiance, the committee unanimously determined that the Inspector General of Police must ensure Magaji’s appearance before the finance committee without fail on Thursday. This move signifies a heightened effort by the Senate to address concerns surrounding Magaji’s conduct and financial matters within the Corporate Affairs Commission.
