In a significant move aimed at revitalizing Zamfara state, Governor Dr. Dauda Lawal has unveiled a groundbreaking N432,523,730 appropriation bill for the upcoming fiscal year, christening it the ‘Rescue Budget.’
Presenting the budget to the State House of Assembly, the governor delineated its structure, allocating N113bn, constituting 39.5% of the budget, to recurrent expenditure. A substantial N305,389bn, representing 64.1%, was earmarked for capital expenditure, underscoring a strategic focus on developmental initiatives.
Breaking down the appropriation bill, Governor Lawal highlighted education, security, health, and infrastructure as the primary beneficiaries of the highest allocations. This deliberate allocation strategy aims to salvage the state from the brink of collapse and foster sustainable growth.
Emphasizing a commitment to educational reforms, the governor disclosed plans to overhaul the educational sector. Additionally, the government has inaugurated a Security Trust Fund and enlisted 4,300 community protection guards to bolster security agencies in the ongoing fight against banditry.
Governor Lawal assured that all ongoing projects would reach completion in 2024, signaling a dedication to delivering on established commitments. Further, he outlined ambitious new road projects, including Mallamawa-Bukuyum-Zoma-Gumi, Maradun-Makera, and Kwatarkwashi-Mada, among others, to commence in the coming year.
Acknowledging the leadership and development brought to the state by Governor Lawal, the Speaker of the Assembly, Alhaji Nasiru Ismaila Moriki, praised the positive working relationship between the executive and the legislature. Moriki expressed confidence in the swift passage of the budget, highlighting a collective commitment to driving progress in Zamfara.
