Breaking: INEC releases timetable for bye-elections and re-runs across Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the comprehensive timetable for upcoming bye-elections and re-run elections arising from vacancies in both National and State Houses of Assembly. These vacancies result from the resignations or demise of several members across the legislative bodies.

This electoral process will address vacancies in two Senatorial Districts, four Federal Constituencies, and three State Constituencies, impacting nine states within the federation. Additionally, the Commission is tasked with conducting re-run elections based on directives from various Election Petition Appeal Tribunals, affecting 35 constituencies. Among these, three constituencies will witness complete re-run elections, while others will involve specific polling units.

All these elections are scheduled to take place simultaneously across the affected constituencies on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024.

In a commitment to transparency and to aid the electoral process, INEC has uploaded a detailed timetable on its official website and social media platforms. This timetable includes essential delimitation data such as registration areas, polling unit names, the number of registered voters, and PVCs collected, providing valuable information for political parties, candidates, and the general public.

Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner & Chairman of the Information Voter Education Committee, highlighted the importance of adhering to the outlined timelines for a seamless and efficient electoral process. The Commission calls for strict compliance from all parties and candidates involved in these crucial elections.
