Shi’ites’ Leader Zakzaky Drops Bombshell on Joining Christmas Service in Kaduna

In a surprising move, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, commonly known as Shi’ites, participated in a Christmas Service held at St Joseph Catholic Church in Samaru, Zaria, Kaduna State. The group, led by Prof Isah-Hassan Mshelgaru, disclosed that their attendance aimed to enhance religious harmony and unity among diverse faith communities.

Acknowledging Christmas as a day of festivities, friendliness, and unity, Prof Mshelgaru emphasized that joining Christian faithful in celebrating Christmas was a gesture to renew hope for unity among Muslims, Christians, and followers of other religions. He stressed that the decision to attend the church service aimed to strengthen the relationship between Islam and Christianity, considering that over 90% of Nigeria’s population adheres to these revered faiths.

Mshelgaru highlighted the impact of the Shi’ite group’s longstanding tradition of visiting churches for more than 25 years, noting improved understanding and reduced animosity between them and Christians. He expressed that these regular exchanges have bridged gaps and created open dialogue. The parish priest, Most Revd Isak Augustine, commended the group for their visit, encouraging further interactions to strengthen religious harmony and unity. The group also presented gifts to the church during the event.
