Hurriya Lawa, the First Lady of Zamfara State and wife of Governor Dauda Lawal, visited the community of Bindin in Maru Local Government Area on Christmas Day, assuring victims of terrorism that the state government is actively working to address the security challenges. Mrs. Lawal presented grains and other essential commodities to the residents to provide support during these challenging times.
Bindin, situated in the eastern part of Maru Local Government Area, has been the target of numerous attacks, resulting in casualties and abductions. Mrs. Lawal, in a statement from her media team, reaffirmed her husband’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in the region and the state at large.
Expressing sympathy for the residents, Mrs. Lawal stated, “We’re here to sympathize with you on the situation you’ve found yourselves in. We would want to share what we’ve brought to you ourselves, but due to time constraints, we’ll hand over everything to the traditional ruler.”
Addressing the traditional ruler, she urged him to take the lead in distributing the relief items to the people and expressed optimism that the security situation would be resolved soon.
The visit was prompted by a report from one of the First Lady’s aides highlighting the alarming situation in the area due to frequent terrorist attacks. Shamsu Abdullahi, a resident of the district, commended Mrs. Lawal for visiting the community, emphasizing that it had been neglected by government officials for over eight years. He pointed out various challenges such as dilapidated infrastructure, lack of electricity, network or internet connections, and abandoned farmlands.
Maru has been severely impacted by terrorist activities, making it one of the most affected areas in Zamfara State. The ongoing attacks have resulted in the loss of lives and the abduction of thousands of people in Zamfara and neighboring states in recent years.
