Senator Ningi: Charting A New Course For Leadership

By Adamu Yalwa Gabi, anipr

A few days ago, the esteemed national daily, Daily Asset newspaper, conducted a thorough appraisal and ethical scrutiny, selecting the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum,Abdul Ahmed Ningi,as the Senator of the Week. This recognition, unsurprising given his magnanimity and contributions to socio-economic growth, extends beyond Nigeria to the neighboring Niger Republic.

This marks a promising beginning for the lawmaker, earning such recognition within the second quarter of his first year—a sign of brighter days ahead. His efforts in restoring constitutional order after the military junta by Abdourahamane Tchiani on July 26, 2023, are commendable.

Tracing the history of newspapers in Nigeria back to 1859 when a missionary Henry Townsend established the first,Iwe Irohin in Lagos, highlights their vital role in shaping public opinion, especially among the elites.

Addressing concerns about Ningi’s future political ambitions in the 2027 Bauchi polity, there’s a notion that his second-term victory in the upper chamber provides an added advantage. This, I argue, stems from the quality of leadership that inspires trust among Bauchi constituents.

Emphasizing this matter, I confidently assert that Bauchi, and indeed the entire state, has not seen an icon like Ningi. Known for his oratory and fearless truth-speaking,Walin Ningi has been following in the footsteps of political giants such as Balewas and Zungurs.

The anticipation surrounding Ningi’s political trajectory may be influenced by the appointment of three former LG Chairmen as his Legislative Aides. The power tussle in Niger sparked reactions from ECOWAS,chaired by President Bola Tinubu, threatening intervention. In a press conference, under the auspices of the Northern Senators Forum,Sen.Ningi stressed the urgent need for intervention to lift sanctions, release the ousted President, and hasten the return to democratic governance.

Congratulations to the awardee for being identified as the voice of the voiceless among over a hundred Senators.
