A total of 27 indigent students in Zamfara State are seeking financial assistance from Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration to cover their registration fees for the upcoming 2023/2024 academic session at the Nigerian Law School.
The Chairman and Secretary of the State’s Law Students’ Forum, Mubasshir Umar and Mahmud Sani-Kaura, issued a statement in Gusau on Friday, highlighting the financial challenges faced by over 90 percent of the students. The exorbitant registration fees have become a significant obstacle for these students.
The statement emphasized that admission to the law school occurs annually, with fees being paid after securing admission, adding to the financial burden on the students.
“Traditionally, due to the exorbitant school fees of the Nigerian Law School, state governments, especially in northern Nigeria, cover the registration, mobility, and logistics expenses for their indigent law students who qualify and are admitted to the school.
“We are appealing for the urgent intervention of our kind-hearted state governor, Dauda Lawal,” the statement noted.
The students stressed the urgency of the situation to meet the registration deadline and urged the governor to provide prompt assistance.
In addition to their appeal, the students commended Governor Dauda Lawal for declaring a state of emergency in the education sector within the state.
