Zamfara Hajj Commission refunds N747 million to 504 prospective pilgrims

In a significant move, the Zamfara Hajj Commission has commenced the reimbursement process of N747 million to 504 individuals who deposited funds for Hajj between 2019 and 2023. The announcement was made by the executive chairman of the commission, Musa Mallaha, during a press briefing in Gusau on Saturday.

Governor Dauda Lawal played a pivotal role in facilitating this substantial refund, approving the release of N218 million each month to disburse the funds in instalments spanning from December to February. Mr. Mallaha revealed that the commission would augment the approved amount with an additional N92 million.

“The governor has sanctioned the refund of N747 million to the beneficiaries in three instalments between December 2023 and February 2024. As of now, N218 million for December has already been released and remitted to the commission’s account,” stated Mr. Mallaha. He further explained that this amount would be combined with the existing N92 million in the commission’s account before distribution to the beneficiaries.

The chairman emphasized that priority would be given to those beneficiaries expressing interest in participating in the 2024 Hajj, especially those who had previously deposited funds with the commission. Mr. Mallaha concluded by pledging to uphold transparency and accountability throughout the refund process, expressing gratitude to Governor Dauda Lawal for steadfastly supporting the commission in this endeavor.
