FCT Minister, Wike Writes EFCC, ICPC To Investigate Former FCT Minister

The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Honourable Wike, has officially written to both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), urging them to investigate and invite the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Muhammed M. Bello.

The purpose of this invitation is to elucidate and provide explanations concerning several questionable activities during his tenure.

Specifically, the concerns raised include:

1. The awarding of a 1-kilometer road construction contract from Gaduwa Estate junction to NCDC Office, costing 4 billion Naira. It is noted that the full payment was made for this project.

2. The initial award of a contract valued at ₦10 billion, later escalated to ₦119 billion.

3. The initial contract amounting to N50 billion, which was subsequently increased to ₦200 billion.

4. The awarding of a contract initially valued at ₦6 billion, which was later increased to ₦70 billion.

5. The approval and payment in full for an emergency maintenance project at Usman Dam, costing ₦9 billion, without any Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and allegations of several procurement infractions.

6. The leaving behind of a substantial debt of over ₦1.2 trillion to the Federal Capital Territory without any corresponding developmental or infrastructural evidence.

7. The approval of green areas to residential houses and the conversion of residential houses in Wuse 2, Maitama Gana Street, Garki, into commercial properties, in clear contradiction to the Abuja master plan.

The Honourable Minister of FCT, Honourable Wike, is seeking a thorough and transparent investigation into these matters to ensure accountability, transparency, and adherence to proper procurement processes.

The aforementioned actions raise concerns about financial mismanagement, procedural irregularities, and potential violations of established guidelines, necessitating a comprehensive inquiry by the appropriate authorities.
