The Federal Government has allocated ₦108.5 billion from the N217 billion earmarked for urgent repairs on 260 roads across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced this during a meeting with the Ministry’s directors in Abuja on Thursday, emphasizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure investment. Umahi stressed that no excuses would be accepted, ensuring that road repairs are executed effectively.
The list of benefited roads includes resurfacing the Third Mainland Bridge, Lekki Deep Seaport road construction, rehabilitation of two collapsed bridges in Enugu, and addressing issues on the Onitsha-Owerri Road.
Additionally, approved projects involve upgrading the ongoing Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia road and the dualisation of the Lafia by-pass, among others.
In October 2023, the Ministry sought and obtained Federal Government approval for the quick rehabilitation and intervention of 260 critically failed road projects nationwide. Two weeks later, the government approved the initiative.
Umahi expressed gratitude, stating, “The President has approved over 260 road interventions across the 36 states and the FCT.” He also mentioned that 50% of the palliative works for 2023 have been released to the Ministry, citing the urgency of the situation.
