Zamfara Withdraws From SOKEZA Bloc: NANS JCC Congress Decides On Independent Path

Zamfara State has officially withdrawn from the SOKEZA BLOC as a result of deliberations during the National Association Of Nigerian Students (NANS) JCC Zamfara State Congress. Faced with heightened security challenges and a pressing need for proactive measures, the Congress has made the strategic decision for the immediate withdrawal of Zamfara State from the SOKEZA BLOC. Moving forward, the state will operate independently within the framework of NANS.

While acknowledging the value of past affiliations, this decision stems from the state government’s concerns regarding NANS’ adherence to its pre-State creation status. The move is considered vital for advancing progress, fostering unity, and establishing a foundation for long-term mutual respect. Although sudden, this decision is perceived as inevitable, and understanding is sought from all stakeholders.

L. B. Majidadi, in a statement, expressed the rationale behind the withdrawal and emphasized the importance of this step in addressing security and governance alignment concerns.

The statement partly reads;

“Assalamu Alaikum Distinguished Honourable Members,

I have been mandated by the Congress of NANS JCC Zamfara State and other Stakeholders to humbly notify the house on an urgent development which I will call the SOKEZA Chairman and brief him on by morning tomorrow.

This stemmed out of a meeting held to discuss the state of NANS JCC Zamfara State and the security challenges facing all campuses in Zamfara vis-a-vis the need to be more proactive.

Intense deliberations were held which led to a number of key resolutions including the most critical being that Zamfara State has withdrawn from the SOKEZA BLOC WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT and will be proceeding forthwith as an independent axis of NANS that it is.

We really appreciate all of the pleasant moments we shared and the kind of affection and brotherhood experienced in the past but for the sake of progress, unity and continued mutual respect in the long term we have resolved that going out separate ways will be the best.

The state government has complained bitterly through some of it’s agents in the past that NANS is the only unit sticking to pre-State creation status which has had a negative effect on our statehood in that regards.

Please kindly understand and bear with us over this sudden but inevitable decision.”
