The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has extended an invitation to Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, to appear at its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja. This summons is in connection to an alleged N585 million scandal.
The invitation was issued shortly after President Bola Tinubu announced Edu’s suspension from office, conveyed through the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
A reliable source within the EFCC confirmed the development, stating that the Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Ola Olukoyede, had recommended Edu’s suspension to the President to facilitate a thorough investigation.
The source explained that the EFCC promptly initiated action following the President’s directive for a comprehensive inquiry into the reported payment of a N585.189 million grant designated for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states, allegedly diverted into a private account.
“We have officially invited the suspended Minister, Betta Edu. The invitation was dispatched immediately after the President announced her suspension. We anticipate her presence at the headquarters in the imminent future,” the source disclosed.
