Nigerian Army Reacts To Allegations Of Poor Feeding Of Troops in Zamfara

The Nigerian Army Headquarters 8 Division has addressed the allegations circulating about the inadequate feeding of troops in Zamfara State, dismissing them as a deliberate attempt to sow discord and distraction among the forces of Operation HADARIN DAJI, who have made significant strides in combating terrorism and banditry in the region.

A report from an online source claimed that troops stationed in Zamfara State were receiving subpar meals and had not received their allowances for December 2023.

In a statement signed by the acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel IKECHUKWU EZE, the army refuted the claims. Contrary to the assertions of insufficient troop feeding, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, actively involved in the ongoing clearance operations in Zamfara State over the past two weeks, has been sharing the same food source as the troops. This illustrates his dedication to their well-being and morale.

The statement emphasized the GOC’s open-door policy, encouraging officers and soldiers to approach him with concerns, ideas, and challenges regardless of rank or position. While acknowledging the possibility of occasional gaps in ration distribution, the army stressed that these would be isolated incidents and would be promptly addressed if reported through appropriate channels. The Operations Allowance for troops in December is still under processing and will be disbursed once ready.

The Division reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of its personnel, recognizing the positive impact it has on their performance and morale. The public was urged to disregard any misinformation regarding troop feeding, emphasizing that such information aims to create discord and disharmony among the troops.
