As the former deputy governor to Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Gawuna secured the second position in the Kano governorship election held on March 18 last year. Dissatisfied with the poll outcome declared by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), he sought validation through the tribunal and the Court of Appeal, which initially upheld his election. However, a five-member panel of judges at the Supreme Court recently set aside the lower courts’ ruling, affirming Yusuf as the lawfully elected governor of Kano.
Gawuna expresses his acceptance of the Supreme Court’s judgment, characterizing it as God’s decision. He encourages his supporters to remain calm, emphasizing that God is the ultimate Designer of all things, and this outcome is predestined. He underscores the importance of leaders accepting decisions after exhausting legal processes, exemplifying his goodwill toward Yusuf even before the lawsuit.
The defeated candidate urges prayers for Yusuf to be a just leader for all citizens. He calls for unity, moral uprightness, and continued prayers for peace in Kano State and Nigeria. Gawuna emphasizes that the party followed due legal processes, and Allah’s decision, which they accepted, aligns with the principles of the Islamic religion.
