In a surprising and strategic move, President Bola Tinubu has given the green light to the reassignment of 24 federal permanent secretaries across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This significant reshuffling is seen as a crucial step in the ongoing process to revitalize government activities. Among those affected are permanent secretaries appointed last year who were awaiting new portfolios.
The reshuffling includes the redeployment of Dr. Evelyn Ngige from the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment to oversee two newly created portfolios: the Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture and Creative Economy, as well as the Federal Ministry of Tourism. Dr. Magdalene Ajani has been moved from the Transportation Ministry to take charge of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), succeeding the retiring Mr. Olusade Adesola. Several other experienced figures have been reassigned, bringing diverse expertise to different sectors.
President Tinubu’s decision also extends to new appointments for five permanent secretaries appointed last November. Rimi Nura Abba now heads the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, while Ella Nicholas Agbo takes on responsibilities in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. Other changes include Watti Tinuke’s assumption of the Permanent Secretary role for the Federal Ministry of Sports and Development, Ahmed Dunoma Umar’s assignment to the Federal Ministry of Youth, and Ndayako Aishetu Gogo becoming the Permanent Secretary for the Federal Ministry of Interior. However, three newly appointed permanent secretaries are yet to be assigned specific portfolios, adding an element of anticipation to the unfolding changes.
