Breaking: Former lawmaker jailed over N30 million fraud in northern nigeria

Former Kaduna State House of Assembly member, Suleiman Dabo, finds himself in legal trouble as a Federal High Court in Abuja has charged him and his company, Ohman International Venture Ltd., with a seven-count indictment related to an alleged N30 million fraud. The charges, ranging from conspiracy to money laundering, stem from their purported involvement in a fraudulent scheme in October and November 2017. Dabo and his company are accused of obtaining N30 million through false pretense and defrauding a certain Mrs. Folashade S. Mojeolaoluwa under the guise of selling a scrap vessel ship known as ADNAN 101.

The presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, ordered Dabo’s remand in Kuje Correctional Centre, citing his multiple absences during past court proceedings. Despite Dabo and Ohman International Venture Ltd. pleading not guilty to all seven counts, the police counsel, Mathew Omosun, urged the court to remand him, while Dabo’s representative, A.S. Egene, opposed the application, pointing out a pending bail plea. Justice Omotosho acknowledged Dabo’s frequent absence but emphasized the need for justice, scheduling February 5 for a ruling on the bail application. The case highlights the legal complexities surrounding allegations of financial misconduct against a former lawmaker.
