Gov Lawal urged to end to banditry after Supreme Court victory

Zamfara state, long grappling with the challenges of banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling, is now at a critical juncture following Governor Dauda Lawal’s recent victory at the Supreme Court. Sani Shinkafi, former deputy chairman of Bello Mohammed Matawalle Governorship Campaign Committee 2023, has extended his congratulations to Governor Lawal while emphasizing the need for unified efforts in tackling the state’s security concerns.

In a statement issued on Monday, Shinkafi urged stakeholders, regardless of party affiliation, to join hands in addressing the pervasive insecurity that has plagued Zamfara. The Supreme Court’s ruling is seen as an opportunity for politicians and the governor to collaborate in restoring security and safeguarding lives and property across the state’s 14 local government areas, which have witnessed banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and mass displacement.

Highlighting the importance of progressive governance, Shinkafi called on Governor Lawal to prioritize key elements such as consensus-oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective, efficient, equitable, and inclusive governance. He stressed the governor’s responsibility to rule with a sense of accountability, providing tangible dividends of democracy to alleviate the suffering of the people and foster overall well-being. The call to action comes as Zamfara navigates the aftermath of the Supreme Court decision, presenting a crucial juncture for collaborative efforts in addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the state.
