In a surprising revelation, President Bola Tinubu has unveiled a significant development regarding former President Muhammadu Buhari’s retirement plans. Speaking at the unveiling of two books in Abuja, Tinubu disclosed that Buhari’s intention to retire in Niger has been foiled due to the current border closure. This revelation sheds light on the geopolitical implications of the border closure, implemented in response to the July 26, 2023, coup in Niger. Tinubu emphasized that the closure renders Buhari unable to escape to Niger, as he had previously suggested.
Tinubu expressed his satisfaction in receiving Buhari in Abuja and took the opportunity to commend the former president’s dedication and service since joining the army in 1962. He specifically thanked Femi Adesina, the author of the memoirs, for providing insights into the challenges faced during Buhari’s eight-year administration.
