Jigawa Hisbah Review C’ttee Consults Relevant Security Agencies, Others

The Jigawa State Hisbah review Committee, has solicited the support and cooperation of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Security Service to come up with recommendations that will help the State Government improve the operations of Hisba in the State.

The Chairman of the Hisbah review Committee who is also the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State,Malam Bala Ibrahim made the plea when he led members of the Committee on a courtesy visit to the State Commissoner of Police, CP A.T Abdullahi and the Director State Security Service,Jigawa State Command, Mr. Tunde Adefolurin.

At the Jigawa State Police Command, the SSG told the Commissioner of Police that the Committee was set up by Governor Malam Umar A Namadi to review Hisbah operations in the State.

Malam Bala Ibrahim identified some of the responsibilities of Hisbah which include, prevention of crime and criminalities, Mediation between Married couples, traffic control, enforcing the law banning prostitution, rescue of victims during accident among others.

Malam Bala Ibrahim, said the committee’s mission to the Command was to further strengthen the existing relationship between Hisbah and security agencies operating in the State.

Responding,the Jigawa State Police Commissioner, CP A.T Abdullahi said, the Police are committed to the protection of lives and properties, adding that if the new Hisbah came on board it would partner with the Board in compliance with the mandate and objectives establishing the Board so as to ensure that Jigawa retained its position as one of the most peaceful States in the Country.

CP Abdullahi, explained that, Jigawa State Police Command and Hisbah are on the same page to protect lives and properties of the State Citizenry, pointing out that his doors were always open to receive Hisbah toward the development of the State.

At the office of the Director State Security Service, the Chairman of the Committee, Malam Bala Ibrahim told the Director that the Committee was seeking the support and cooperation of the DSS to reform Hisba in the State.

He explained that when the new Hisbah is established it will collaborate with the DSS and other security agencies in the State in tackling all cases of social vices in the State.

The SSG commended the State Security Service for the warm reception accorded them, promising to collaborate with them in achieving the desired objectives.

In his response, the Director Jigawa State Security Service, Mr. Tunde Adefolurin said, the Command is ready to collaborate with the Jigawa State Hisbah Board and other relevant stakeholders to eradicate moral decadence among members of the society.

He suggested to the committee to consider total overhauling of the Hisba Law to be in conformity with the Nigerian Constitution.

Mr. Tunde Adefolurin advised the Committee to give women a chance to participate in the Hisbah recruitment like their male counterpart.

The Director advocated for effective collaboration with DSS and other security agencies in terms of intelligence sharing and operations.

Similarly, the Committee has also visited the State Chief Judge, Honorable Justice Umar Maigari Sadiq and the State Grand Khadi, Honorable Khadi Muhammad Sani Salihu.

The Chairman of the Committee, Malam Bala Ibrahim solicited the support and cooperation of the Judiciary to enhance the smooth operations of the Hisbah in the State.

In their separate remarks,the Chief Judge,Justice Umar M Sadiq and Honorable Grand Khadi Muhammad Sani Salihu noted that Hisbah is known in ensuring that the tenets of the Shariah Law are maintained, will be supported in its operations.

They noted that the strict adherence to the Sharia injunctions could go a long way to eliminate social vices and insecurity in the State.

They assured the Committee that the Judiciary is ready to work closely with Hisbah in the quest to reduce the rate of criminal activities in the State.
