Economic Challenges: Seek Help Before It’s Too Late – LP Advises Tinubu

The Labour Party, LP, is urging President Bola Tinubu to take proactive measures in addressing the escalating cost of living and economic challenges in the country before they reach an unmanageable level.

Expressing deep concern for the plight of millions of Nigerians grappling with food shortages since the beginning of the year, the party issued a statement on Monday through its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh.

In addition to urging Tinubu to intervene, the LP called on him to discourage his aides from making inflammatory, incendiary, careless, and unreasonable comments that could offend the sensibilities of average Nigerians.

The opposition party emphasized the need for Tinubu and his team to acknowledge the depletion of effective solutions and seek assistance. The LP stressed that no amount of propaganda could alter the fact that more Nigerians are slipping below the poverty line.

Lamenting the significant increases in the prices of essential commodities such as rice, garri, flour, and protein since January, the LP noted a prevailing sense of despondency across the nation. The party highlighted the adverse consequences, citing a rise in crime, particularly among the youth, and an increase in suicide cases.

Ifoh remarked that the government appears either bereft of ideas to address the unfolding crisis or is choosing to act as if it is still in a campaign mode, emphasizing that it is not the time for political maneuvers.

He stated, “Governance cannot be run on a whim. The economic turmoil we are experiencing today is a consequence of this poor judgment. Regrettably, amidst these challenges, the All Progressives Congress administration has increased spending on the extravagant lifestyles of its elected officials, and corruption among government officials has never been more rampant,” as part of the statement.
