Gov Yusuf To Personally Engage With Tinubu For Relief Measures Amid Hardships

Nigerians are facing considerable hardship, and I am personally committed to addressing these challenges. Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano state expressed deep concerns about the economic struggles affecting both his state and the entire nation. He emphasized his dedication to meeting with President Bola Tinubu to discuss and seek intervention for the economic difficulties faced by the people of Kano.

Speaking at a meeting with the state’s business community, Governor Yusuf lamented the soaring prices of essential commodities, particularly food items, which have resulted in widespread hunger and financial strain on the common man, including civil servants. The governor pledged to collaborate with the business community to devise strategies aimed at reducing the prices of essential goods, ensuring affordability for the general populace, especially with the approaching Ramadan fasting period.

Governor Yusuf highlighted the alarming cost of basic commodities, citing examples such as local rice selling at N3,000 per measure and N60,000 per 50kg bag, as well as maize priced at N1,500 per measure and over N50,000 per bag. Expressing concern for the challenges faced by the business community due to high exchange rates, he emphasized the need for collective efforts to alleviate the plight of the poor and most vulnerable citizens.

Acknowledging the critical nature of the situation, Governor Yusuf underscored his intention to personally engage with President Tinubu to apprise him of the dire circumstances and seek his intervention. The governor also urged rice millers and farmers to consider subsidizing their products for the benefit of the common citizens. Additionally, he called on farmers to refrain from hoarding grains and instead sell them at affordable prices, especially given the approaching Ramadan fasting period.
