Female Corps Member, Driver Freed in Zamfara After 6 Months In Captivity

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the military have successfully secured the release of a female prospective corps member (PCM) who was abducted last year in Zamfara State while en route to the orientation camp in Sokoto State. Additionally, the driver of the bus in which she was traveling has been released.

This development marks the liberation of five out of the eight PCMs who were kidnapped by gunmen in Zamfara.

In a statement issued yesterday by Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations at NYSC, it was noted that efforts are ongoing to ensure the prompt release of the remaining three individuals (one female and two male) still held in captivity.

The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, commended the relentless efforts of the security agents which led to the release of the PCMs, affirming that the Scheme remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of Corps Members at all times.

In a related development, police operatives from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have apprehended six suspected kidnappers at a hotel in Bassa Village.

Among the suspects are a wanted kingpin named Buhari Muhammad (20), Muhammad Sabiu (20), Isah Abdullahi, Hamzat Musa (21), Fatima Abdullahi (22), and Zuliat Yusuf (23).

This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the police to combat criminal activities within the FCT.

The apprehended syndicate is allegedly responsible for the abduction of Joshua Eze, the husband of Blessing Eze, who sustained a gunshot wound during the abduction on January 27.

According to a statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Josephine Adeh, an AK-47 rifle, 10 mobile phones, cash amounting to N345,000, and other valuables were recovered from the suspects.

The suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime as well as other kidnapping incidents in the FCT. Investigations are currently underway.
