JUST IN: Nollywood Actress Ethel Ekpe Passes Away

Ethel Ekpe, a revered figure in Nollywood, has sadly passed away after a prolonged battle with illness.

The veteran actress, who had been bravely fighting cancer, peacefully departed on Wednesday, February 7, according to a Facebook post by Shaibu Husseini, the Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board.

Husseini expressed his condolences, stating: “I have received reliable information confirming the passing of Ethel Ekpe, also known as Ethel Aderemi nee Ekpe. She was the screen beauty who captivated audiences with her unforgettable portrayal of the character Segi in the renowned sitcom ‘Basi and Company’ on Nigerian Television Authority, created by Ken Saro Wiwa.

“The actress, who was also known for her roles in Amaka Igwe’s ‘Forever’ and the recent series ‘Sons of the Caliphate,’ succumbed to cancer today in Lagos. Her absence will be deeply felt.”

Ethel, prior to her passing, left an indelible mark with her portrayal of ‘Segi’ in the iconic sitcom ‘Basi and Company’ aired on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), a creation by Ken Saro Wiwa.
